All major tourist destinations in the Netherlands are within 2½ hours of Amsterdam. Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) operates the railway network. Trains are a good, if not the best, way to travel in the Netherlands. They run very often and there are tracks to almost every part of the country. If you want to bike some of your travel route (which is easy to do in this flat country) the NS has handy arrangements where you can pick up a bike at one station and drop it off at another.
