Rail services are operated by Iarnrod Éireann (Irish Rail), a subsidiary of Córas Iompair Éireann, the Irish Transport Company. Irish Rail provides a modern, comfortable and frequent rail service to most parts of Ireland.

Network

Most trains in Ireland operate to and from Dublin. There are two main stations in Dublin: Connolly Station and Heuston Station.

Important long-distance connections are:

  • From Dublin Heuston to Cork, Tralee, Limerick, Galway, Westport, Ballina and Waterford.
  • From Dublin Connolly to Sligo, Belfast (Northern Ireland), Wexford, Rosslare Europort. Ferries to England leave from Rosslare.

Other InterCity Routes are:

  • Cork to Tralee
  • Cork to Limerick
  • Limerick to Rosslare Europort

These InterCity trains also stop at smaller stations on the route.

Special trains

You can travel by train through Europe on a large variety of special trains. Examples are high-speed trains, scenic trains or night trains.
