Experience France & Italy with the special Eurail Pass

Eurail Regional Pass France-Italy

France and Italy are two of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe. Most Eurail travelers will visit the highlights of these countries on their journey. In July it's even more attractive to go to France, because of all the action related to the Tour de France, the world's biggest cycling event. This year also two stages take place in Italy. With the Eurail France-Italy Pass you can explore both wonderful countries and be part of the exciting Tour!

France
France has everything and more you that would expect from a Mediterranean country: beautiful cities like Paris, Marseilles and Nice, sandy beaches, the delicious French kitchen and it’s fantastic location in the centre of Europe which makes it an ideal country to travel through by train. More on France.

Italy
Italy is the most popular Eurail country, and this is not surprising! The ancient city of Rome, the charm of Venice and the many Renaissance influences in Florence make visiting the country worthwhile. But the party people are not left empty-handed: the Italian coast near Rimini is known for the great places to go out. More on Italy.

Tour de France

Viasit the Tour de France 2008 with EurailCombing these countries will no doubt result into a fantastic holiday! And this summer, there is even one more reason to visit France and Italy! France will turn yellow again during “Le tour de France” between July 5 and July 27. This world famous cycle event takes the bikers from Bretagne through Toulouse, then passing by the famous Cote d’Azur, visiting Italy, cycle over l’Alpe d’Huez to the final round in Paris. This year, Le Tour even crosses the French border. The typical Italian cities Cuneo and Prato Nevoso near the Alps function as the start and finish of two stages. And while you are there, don’t forget to visit Milano!

Where to go
The 95th Tour de France will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,500 kilometres. Most of the start and finish lines can be reached perfectly by train. On the official Tour de France website you can find all cities the bikers come through, divided per stage.

How to go
You can join the cycling group with our Eurail France-Italy Pass. This Pass, with prices starting at $ 249, entitles you to unlimited* rail travel in France and Italy. This Pass is available for 4 up to and including 10 days within a 2-month period.

* Some special trains require a supplement or reservation (more info)

Where to stay
Do keep in mind that it can be crowded due to the popularity of the Tour de France. However, travelling by train is much more convenient than the car for example, as there are no detours or traffic jams. It is advisable to make early reservations if you wish to stay in a hotel or camping place nears the finish line. However, in both France and Italy there are plenty possibilities for camping somewhere near a train station or the end or start of a stage.

You could have a look at campingdefrance.com or at Eurocampings Italy.  If you prefer to stay in a ho(s)tel, we recommend you to look at hostelword.com or booking.com.

Extra Pass Benefits
While in France and Italy, Eurail Pass holders can also profit from various interesting extra benefits. Examples are discounted shipping lines, museums and hotels. Take a look at the Pass Benefits for France and for Italy.
